Not meant to be a brilliant quality video – far from it, but might bring back some memories of the night.

REVIEW: @twinatlantic #cardiffsolus 19/4/12

People often ask why I go to so many gigs, and if I get free tickets for them. Well, yes I do get some freebies – but on the whole I pay my way. So to go to a gig and see a band that I’ve only really known one song was a bit of a risk and Thursday night in Cardiffthat “risk” was Twin Atlantic.

Only know them from the last single, Free, but what I heard, I liked and wanted to find out more about them. Did do a little bit of youtube’ing to get a better feel and took the plunge and bought tickets.

Best investment I’ve made in a while. Granted I’ve been out and about all week seeing musicals, and being on the radio so another night I wasn’t entirely sure I’d last the distance but with Twin Atlantic it was easy. They kept me and the throng at Cardiff Solus entertained for the best part of 90 minutes. Okay, so I couldn’t sing-along to it, but there were definite moments that you can imagine them on a bigger stage and filling it quite easily. Coldplay for example played a venue about 1/2 a mile away with a capacity of 200 just 12 years ago – and look where they are now!

I don’t want to do the comparison thing, but if you’re into certain bands, you’ll love Twin Atlantic for certain. Comparisons can be made with Biffy Clyro, and Muse – so if you like them, check out TA.

My friend who came with me didn’t know about them at all, but from the first guitar she was hooked – and it takes a lot to impress her let me tell you!

TA have been around for a while, and only now are they starting to shine through onto mainstream Radio 1, with Thursday night’s showing, they’ll be around for a while yet, and bigger and better things I can predict for them.

For me, although not having been a fan from the start, I can safely say I am now – and for you, you need this band in your life!

Best of 2011 @example @coldplay @straightlines @CharleneSoraia @katyperry

Quite a few big songs out this year, and events to (Pippa Middleton’s arse remind you of a day in April maybe), so here’s some of our favourite tunes of the year.

Example – Changed the way you kiss me
Just something about this tune that makes you just wanna crank the volume right up, and when the bass kicks in on the bridge, you wanna bounce. Simple as.

Coldplay-Paradise
I know Coldplay are marmite – you either love them, or hate them. I’m in the earlier category and having seen them live this year (gig of the year), it’s cemented my love for the band and this song itself just doesn’t seem to want to go away at the moment – maybe the first number one of 2012?

Charlene Soraira-Wherever you will go
Who’d have thought a cover version of The Calling and an advert for tea would bring us such an amazing song by Charlene. You can listen to this and just chill completely. Her album Moonchild is also just sublime

Katy Perry-Last friday night
It’s been a huge year for Mrs Brand. Twice in Cardiff (lucky girl) and this song/video is just one of the most fun tunes of the year. Watch for cameos from Hanson, Kenny G and Debbie Gibson

Rihanna-We found love
Does this woman actually rest? The video was the one that an Irish farmer stopped the filming of, due to Rihanna being in a state of undress…. The tune is pretty damn awesome, thanks to a certain Calvin Harris

Straight Lines-Set me on fire and feed me to the wolves
A strange choice for best of 2011? I’ve seen them several times, and they are just awesome. This is taken from the album “Persistence in the game”, and is one of those songs that’s best listened/watched live – the crowd conga..not mosh! 🙂

More of my best bits of 2011 on New Year’s Eve at 8am on BRO Radio

My favourite Christmas song

Having been brought up with the likes of Slade & Wizzard EVERY Christmas since their Nadolig Llaweninception, I’ve always been a big fan of Christmas songs. The amount of Christmas music I own is no one’s business – but this one song from last year has become my new favourite – and yes I admit I’m also not ashamed to admit I like Coldplay.

Live from Berlin, here’s Christmas Lights

Coldplay – before the gig

I know Coldplay are like marmite, you either love or hate them. I love them… and in the next 24 hours I’m seeing them. I might’ve seen about 25 gigs this year… but I’m genuinely excited to see a band that have soundtracked my life over the last 10 years. The highs, the lows, friendships made, friendships lost.

I’ll no doubt post pics or a blog later on.

Manchester here we come…
